Fisker Automotive fires 75% of its workforce. Does this mean bankruptcy?

This is sad. Several reports have been showing up saying Fisker Automotive, a company that made the innovative plug-in hybrid luxury sports sedan called Karma, fired 75% of its workforce. Fisker had over 200 workers, meaning around 150 to 160 employees were terminated today. Even the company’s public relations team wasn't spared.

Fisker was looking for potential buyers or investors, and was negotiating with a few companies, but it seems the deals fell down the drain. Even the company (A123) that supplied one of the most important components, such as the battery, went bankrupt and had to change their name to B456 after it got sold to the Chinese Wanxiang.

If you thought that was bad, even Mother Nature turned against them and destroyed 300 Karmas, worth over €23,4 million ($30 million or £19,75 million) in a flood at Port Newark in New York. Give Fisker a break!

Fisker still has access to a big amount of money, but things aren't looking very bright to the North American company. They even hired a law firm in preparation to a possible bankruptcy filing. We will have to wait and see.
