China is a country that is not very fond of patents and keeping stuff secret, and to prove that here are the first images of the soon to be introduced Volkswagen Taigun. We already know the overall shape of this small crossover, because Volkswagen introduced the Taigun Concept at the São Paulo Motor Show, and they are similar.
The biggest difference between the concept and the model revealed in these patents, is the placement of LEDs in the headlamps, but i also noted the turn signals in the rear view mirror and the LED in the tail lights. It seems the LED lights in the roof rails will make it into production.
The Taigun will be based on the Up! platform, but the concept was a little bit larger. It was 83mm wider, 81mm taller, and the wheelbase was increased by 50mm in comparison with the small city car. And if you are wondering, It measured 3860mm in length and and weighed approximately 985kg (2172lbs).
The engine used in the concept was the EA211 1.0 liter TSI with 110PS (109hp or 81kW) and 175Nm (129lb/ft) of torque. It has a top speed of 186km/h (116mph) and can accelerate from 0 to 100km/h in a respectable time of 9.2 seconds. The combined fuel consumption for this engine is rated at 4.5l/100km (52.27 USA mpg or 62.77 UK mpg).
There should be no major differences in these values between the production model and the concept. We will have to wait and see if this turns out to be true, but i am sure VW will give to choose between more engines.
