Detroit Electric returns after an absence of over 70 years

The company that hasn't build a car for over 70 years now promises to bring a new limited edition electric two-seat sports car that will be the first of several high-performance electric vehicles. And since the company's name is Detroit Electric it makes sense that the headquarter will be in Detroit's iconic Fisher Building with production taking place in Michigan, USA.

The presentation will take place next month in Detroit while the global public reveal will happen at the Shanghai Motor Show on 20 April, with production starting on August 2013. The factory in Michigan has an annual production capacity of 2500 sports cars and will hire 180 new workers.

In Shanghai Detroit Electric will also announce "a major partnership with a global carmaker". Both Don Graunstadt (Detroit Electric CEO North American Operations) and Albert Lam (Detroit Electric Chairman and CEO Holdings Ltd) have worked in Lotus therefore it is quite likely they will join Proton (current owners of Lotus) and use their platforms to build their own cars.

Find out more in early April when Detroit Electric reveals a little more information.
