Back in 2003, Stacy Dean Stephens (a retired police officer) and William Santana Li (a former Ford executive) created Carbon Motors with the explicit objective of creating a purpose-built police car. According to the company, they already had several tens of thousands of orders and ordered more than 200,000 diesel engines to BMW.
Seems the dream is gone. According to the Indianapolis Business Journal, Carbon Motors ordered the removal of the equipment from their factory. Even the sign saying "Carbon Motors Drive" was removed.
The same source also said the U.S. Department of Energy rejected loaning over $300 million (€234 million or £197 million) to the car manufacturer impeding the construction of the E7 patrol car.
But what is even stranger is the fact that their website, Youtube page and Facebook page are now inaccessible. It was a promising project, but unfortunately it seems that has not gone beyond that. Hopefully another company will take over the project.
