Finally, Toyota decided to reveal the redesigned fifth-generation 4Runner. The overall shape of this mid-size SUV is basically the same, but the front of this car suffered major changes, that give it an almost completely new, and a bit strange, look to the 2014 model.
It will be available in three grades: an entry-level SR5, the top-of-the-line Limited, and a Trail grade for the off-road enthusiasts. The SR5 and Limited have an optional third row of seats, transforming the 4Runner in a seven-seater SUV. Both the headlamps and the redesigned rear combination lamps now feature LEDs.
Depending on the model, you can choose from 17 inch wheels, up to 20 inch, and eight different colors (Super White, Attitude Black Metallic, Barcelona Red Metallic, Nautical Blue Metallic, Blizzard Pearl, Classic Silver Metallic, Magnetic Gray Metallic and Black).
Toyota only offers one engine. It's a 4.0-liter V6 that produces 274PS (270hp or 201kW) and 377Nm (278lbft) of torque, which in turn is connected to a five-speed ECT-i automatic transmission.
You will be able to choose between a rear wheel 4x2, a part-time 4x4 or a full-time multi-mode 4x4 with a locking center differential. The estimated fuel consumption in the city is 13.83l/100km (17 USA mpg or 21.62 UK mpg).
Inside, we will find a new Optitron instrument panel and the Entune Audio Plus that includes Toyota’s Entune multimedia system, an AM/FM/MP3 CD player with eight speakers, integrated SiriusXM Satellite Radio, with a 90-day trial subscription, a USB port with iPod connectivity, and Bluetooth® hands-free phone capability and music streaming.
If this isn't enough for you, you can also choose the Entune Premium JBL Audio system, which has a seven-inch screen for the navigation system and 15 speakers.
Safety is important, so Toyota fitted the 4Runner with eight airbags, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) with traction control (TRAC), an Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), Brake Assist (BA), and Smart Stop Technology (SST) brake-override system (remember all those cars that Toyota had to recall?).
