Official picture of the 2014 BMW X5 appears online. More coming soon [Updated]

This was unexpected. We have seen many spy pictures of the upcoming BMW X5, but has never been given to understand that we would be close the presentation of this SUV. Today, BMW revealed a teaser showing the "kidney grille" of the X5 together with two sentences saying: "Something big is coming. The boss is back.". But this comes a few hours after the first image of the "big boss" leaked to the web.

Nothing else is known for now, but this will be updated as soon as i find out more or when BMW decides to fully reveal this large vehicle.

[Update] BMW was forced to reveal more information about the car after the picture below was leaked.

The third generation of the X5 now comes with a new Design Pure Experience, Design Pure Excellence and the M Sport package.

At launch BMW X5 will make available three engines. First we have the BMW X5 xDrive50i with an improved 4.4 liter V8 petrol engine that produces 450PS (443bhp or 330kW) and 650Nm (479lb/ft) of torque. It can reach a top speed of 250km/h (155mph) and will do the 0 to 100km/h (62mph) run in 5 seconds. Average fuel consumption sits at about 10.5 l/100km (26.9 UK mpg or 22.4 USA mpg).

The second option is the BMW X5 xDrive30d with a revised 3 liter six-cylinder in-line diesel unit that has a power output of 258PS (190kW or 255bhp) and 560 Nm (413lb/ft) of maximum torque. At 230km/h (143mph), the top speed is a little bit lower in comparison with the other models., but it only takes 6.9 seconds to reach 100km/h (62mph). On the positive side we see that it has an average fuel consumption of only 6.2 l/100km (45.6 UK mpg or 37.6 USA mpg).

The third, and last model for now, is the BMW X5 M50d M Performance Automobile with the tri-turbo 3.0 liter six-cylinder in-line diesel with 381PS (280kW or 376bhp) and a massive 740Nm of torque. This more than enough to accelerate this beast from 0 to 100km/h (62mph) in 5.3 seconds while having a limited top speed of 250km/h (155mph). Fuel consumption averages at 6.7 l/100km (42.2 UK mpg or 35.1 USA mpg).

Later in the year, BMW will add to the range the BMW X5 xDrive40d, BMW X5 xDrive35i, BMW X5 xDrive25d and BMW X5 sDrive25d. They all come with the xDrive all-wheel-drive system, except for the sDrive25d, and an eight-speed automatic gearbox. BMW also offers a Start/Stop system and an ECO PRO mode. As an option, we have adaptive suspension packages, Adaptive M suspension and Active Steering.

Inside, the boot has room for 650 to 1870 liters, depending if you fold the back seats or not. There is also a rather large 10.25-inch Control Display for standard-fitted iDrive operating system, Touch Controller, Bang & Olufsen High End Surround Sound System and many more options.
