This is a bit strange, when we all thought that Peugeot was going to show the GTI, they go direct to the top of the range, 308 R. And this is looking promising. Almost all the sheet metal of this red and black car is new, with the exception of the roof and tailgate, and the powertrain is borrowed from the new and very fast RCZ R.
The four-cylinder engine (EP6CDTR), as we know, is a 1.6-liter unit that generates 270PS (199kW or 267bhp) and 330Nm (243lb/ft) of torque. The power is delivered to the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox and a Torsen differential.
While it wasn't revealed, the top speed should be limited to 250km/h (155mph) and the 0 to 100km/h (62mph) sprint will take around 6 seconds. One thing we do know is that this concept has an average fuel consumption of 6.3l/100km (44.8 UK mpg or 37.3 USA mpg), and CO2 emissions of 145g/km.
The car has a wider body, 19-inch wheels (235/35 R19), bigger brakes ("380mm in diameter and 32mm thick at the front, 330mm and 22mm at the rear") and the suspension was lowered by 26mm.
This concept will be publicly revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show in a few weeks time.
