Toyota just announced they are going to reveal for the first time the Hybrid-R concept at the Frankfurt Motor Show. I have no idea what it could be or what is its purpose, but we do know it is going to showcase what they learned with the TS030 Hybrid Le Mans race car, and it can be applied to a road car.
Toyota TS030 Hybrid race car has a 3.4-liter V8 petrol engine that produces around 530PS (390kW or 523bhp) and is connected to a six-speed sequential gearbox. It also uses a super capacitor-based system that alone and automatically delivers 300PS (221kW or 296bhp) of boost.
I do believe what we will see is a prototype of the successor of the Toyota Supra and its hybrid powertrain. It might also be the first result of the Toyota-BMW partnership, but for now we will have to wait for the official reveal.
For now, Toyota only had the following to say: At the forthcoming 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, Toyota will present an exciting new concept that brings Toyota Hybrid System-Racing technology to the road (and track).
