Volkswagen reveals the Golf Sportsvan concept


Volkswagen is bringing to the Frankfurt Motor Show the Golf Sportsvan concept, a car that is close to the production version of the Golf Plus. And it grew a lot, compared to the previous model, but it is smaller than the Estate. The length in comparison to the to Plus increased by 134mm, to 4,338mm.

It is also 8mm wider than the Golf and Golf Estate, 83mm longer than the Golf hatchback and 224mm shorter than the Estate. The height is about the same as the previous model (1,578mm).

Inside, Volkswagen made several improvements to increase the cargo space and passenger room. The rear seats have a 60:40 split, and they are both folded there is room in the back for a cargo volume of 1,512 liters, but with the seats up in their standard position, it still has room for 498 liters.

The new Golf Plus will be available with six engines. Four petrol engines ranging from 85PS (63kW or 84bhp) to 150PS (110kW or 148bhp), and two diesel units with 110PS (81kW or 109bhp) and 150PS (110kW or 148bhp). With the exception of the weaker petrol engine, they can all be combined with the automatic dual clutch gearbox (DSG), and they all come standard with a start/stop system.

The 1.6 TDI BlueMotion with 110PS has a combined fuel consumption of just 3.7l/100km (76.34 UK mpg or 63.57 USA mpg) and emits just 95g/km of CO2.

Production will start in the middle of next year and will not be available in the North American market.
