With the approach of its presentation, something that is expected to happen towards the end of the year, Mercedes begins to show a little of the sixth generation of one of its most successful models, the E-Class (W214). And when I say little, I really mean the whole interior.
Mercedes promises "a particularly immersive entertainment experience" with music, games and streaming content. And this promise is fulfilled with the optional MBUX Superscreen, which is a a smoothed-down version of the gigantic MBUX Hyperscreen that can be found in the S-Class. The Superscreen includes 3 screens that can control most of the cars features and even one for the passenger. A more classic design will also be available for the E-Class without a screen for the passenger and free-standing screen in the center.
Other highlights of this infotainment system are the selfie and video camera on top of the dashboard, third party apps like TikTok, Angry Birds, Webex, Zoom, Vivaldi browser and the ZYNC entertainment portal (for streaming content), and 5G connection.
Mercedes also wanted to highlight the new Active Ambient Lighting with Sound Visualisation. With this option all occupants can feel (through sound resonating transducers in the optional 17 speaker Burmester® 4D surround sound system), hear (Dolby Atmos® technology) and see (Active Ambient Lighting) the music. Regarding the Active Ambient Lighting, Mercedes says that "fast sequences of beats can cause rapid light changes, while flowing rhythms can create softly merging lighting moods" or how i would have said, disco party.
Other interesting points will be the introduction of AI systems to automate some comfort functions, a "visual shield" that will track the eye movement of the driver and reduce the passenger screen brightness and avoid him from being distracted while driving, the THERMOTRONIC automatic climate control with a digital vent control and to finish an ENERGIZING COMFORT program for a comprehensive wellness plan.
Whatever that means and in the end it almost feels like a nightclub mixed with a spa. And for those who care, it will have seats and a steering wheel with several different color choices and materials.
