Mercedes today unveiled the facelift of its two smallest SUVs, the GLA and GLB. Many of the changes are similar on both models and that was to be expected as they share many of their components.
Among the exterior innovations are the new front and rear bumpers, new standard LED headlights and taillights, and new grilles that, in the case of the GLB, give it a more robust appearance. Also new is the Spectral Blue paint colour and four additional wheel designs. The AMG versions also receive new specific front and rear fascias.
Inside, there's a freestanding double screen scheme, with two 10,25inch wide-screen displays available as an option (standard it's one 7inch and one 10,25inch screen). Comfort seats upholstered in ARTICO man-made leather are now the standard. The GLA and GLB will also receive the latest generation of the MBUX system along with some mini-games to play when you are bored.
Also renewed are the powertrains available. There's a choice between 1.3 and 2.0 liter petrol/gasoline engines and one 2.0 diesel unit. All petrol engines belong to a mild hybrid system and have the assistance of a starter-generator that gives a small boost when needed for the AMG versions. The GLA will also have a plugin hybrid option with an electric motor helping the 1.3 liter gasoline engine. Power goes from around 130PS to over 300, while torque sits between 230 and 450Nm.
Worldwide availability and prices have not yet been revealed, so stay tuned!
