2014 Chevrolet Camaro unveiled. The Z/28 is the new baby

Chevrolet released pictures of the Camaro SS and the new Camaro Z/28 together with a press release, but it seems they were so excited to see the return of the Z/28 name they only talked about this new version. Almost nothing was said about the SS or the ZL1.

The new Camaro now comes with narrower head lamps and upper grille that also has a new chrome piece on top of it. In the back, Chevrolet gave the new Camaro one-piece LED tail lights and a third stop-light. Both the rear and front bumpers have been redesigned.

Now let's get more specific about the Z/28. Chevrolet says it is "the ultimate track-capable Camaro". It features a full aerodynamic package for optimal down-force, that includes a large splitter connected to an under body panel to help avoid lift, fender flares over the front and rear wheels, extended rocker panels, a rear spoiler and diffuser.

Inside Chevrolet adopted several wight saving measures. The Recaro seats are manually adjustable and the rear seats, while they weren't removed because "it was important to keep the 2+2 configuration of the Camaro Z/28 as Chevrolet already has a world-class two-seat sports car in the Corvette", they did remove the seat back pass and used high-density foam in place of the rigid structure.

The North American brand also removed the tire inflation kit, the interior sound deadener and carpeting from the trunk, replaced the standard LN4 battery with a smaller, lightweight, LN3 batter, added a thinner, 3.2mm glass for the rear window, instead of the standard 3.5mm, HID head lamps and fog lights are not available, and the air conditioning system is only available as an option.

The engine powering this track-focused car is the naturally aspirated 7.0 liter V8 LS7. An engine that produces 500hp (373kW) and 637Nm (470lb/ft) of torque. Connecting the engine to the rear 19 inch wheels (wrapped in Pirelli PZero Trofeo R tires) is the Tremec TR6060 six-speed manual gearbox, and helping stopping all that power are Carbon Ceramic Matrix front (394 x 36 mm [15.5 x 1.4 in]) and rear (390 x 32 mm [15.3 x 1.3 in]) discs with six-piston calipers in the front and four-piston in the back.
