BMW is going to use the Frankfurt Motor Show to show their latest hybrid concept the, the BMW Concept5 X5 eDrive. The German car manufacturer wants to combine the efficiency of a hybrid vehicle with the "driving pleasure taken the xDrive intelligent all-wheel-drive system" and the luxury of the X5.
The eDrive system comprises a gasoline four-cylinder engine and an electric motor that generates 95PS (70kW or 94bhp). This motor is powered by a lithium-ion battery that gives this sports activity vehicle (SAV) a range of 30 kilometres (19 miles). Besides the small range, when driving using just electric power, the car is limited to 120km/h (75mph).
The good news is that this X5 has an average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle of just 3.8l/100km (74.3 UK mpg or 61.9 USA mpg) and CO2 emissions of under 90 grams per kilometer. The 0 to 100km/h (62mph) sprint is done in under 7.0 seconds.
The synchronization between the eDrive and xDrive systems is made through an advanced electronic system, but you can manually select the ECO PRO mode or the all-electric driving mode.
